Guidelines for Visits with Long Term Care Resident

– For FULLY Vaccinated Residents and Family Members –

The health and safety of our patients, residents and staff is our highest priority. 

We are pleased to welcome our Fully Vaccinated families and friends into the Elizabeth Seton Residence for in-room visits with their loved ones during visiting hours.

Note that in-resident room visits are contingent on the status of COVID-19 cases in the residence. We may need to restrict in- room visitation if a resident or staff member tests positive within a unit.  

Who is allowed to receive in-room visits?

Residents and patients who are fully vaccinated (14 days after their final dose of COVID-19 vaccine) may receive in-room visits. DPH guidance discourages visits with residents who have active or suspected COVID-19 infections as well as any residents who are symptomatic or under quarantine.  Individual circumstances will be taken into account if visitation is desired, and visitors will be informed of the potential risks in visiting under these circumstances.

Who can visit residents in their rooms?

Family and friends who are fully vaccinated (14 days after their final dose of COVID-19 vaccine) may visit residents in their room. Family visitors must confirm their vaccination status including date of their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to entering the residence. As of December 2021, non-vaccinated adult visitors may also visit in the room, although outdoor visitation is preferred whenever possible.  Non-vaccinated children are NOT allowed to visit indoors.  Please note that only 2 people may visit a resident at a time. Well-behaved pets on a leash are allowed indoors to visit when accompanied by their human.

When can in-resident room visits occur?

Visitors are welcome to enter the building during designated visiting times each day. They may stay as long as the resident would like them to, within visiting hours. All visitors must exit the residence prior to mealtimes.  Current visiting hours are posted at our entrance, as well as at the Reception Desk.  We currently welcome visitors EVERY DAY between 10:00am – 11:30am and 1:30 – 4:30pm.  We additionally welcome visitors between 6:00pm – 7:00pm Monday through Friday.

Will visitors undergo screening?

Eligible family and friends will be asked to confirm their vaccination status including date of their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to entering the clinical area for in-room visits. This must be confirmed at every visit, no exceptions. Eligible family visitors must also pass a temperature check and screening questionnaire at the start of the visit. In compliance with DPH regulations, the following criteria must be met:

The visitors:
• Must not feel ill;
• Must have no symptoms of COVID-19 infection including fever ≥ 100.0° F, shortness of breath, sneezing, chest pain or pressure, cough, sore throat, headache, loss of taste or smell, chills, uncontrolled shaking, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
• Come from households where no one has COVID-19 symptoms listed above;
• No close contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 15 days.

What is the protocol before and during the in-room visit?

Upon entry into the residence, visitors will be provided a visitor badge that they must display prominently while in the building. They will also be given a mask. During the in-room visits, residents and visitors must wear a mask at all times.  Vaccinated visitors do not need to maintain social distancing.  Non-vaccinated visitors SHOULD maintain distancing. Touching, hugging, etc. are allowed with proper hand hygiene before and after contact for vaccinated visitors. Family visitors must proceed to and stay in the resident’s room at all times or as directed by staff. Use of common areas to visit in the living room or kitchen on the unit is prohibited.

What happens if there is a positive case of the virus in the residence?

Per regulatory guidelines, indoor visitation may be restricted when there is an outbreak, defined as at least one positive case of a staff member or resident. Weather and temperature permitting, an alternate location outdoors may be available. If we are unable to permit visits, we will post a notice on our Facebook page, and email the primary family contact.

What happens if a family visitor develops symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19 within 2 days of visiting?

All family visitors must contact the residence if they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 within 2 days of visiting, per regulatory guidelines. They must be prepared to state the date of their visit and any individuals in the residence they were in contact with during that time.

My loved one has not been fully vaccinated and/or I have not been fully vaccinated. Can I visit?

We strongly encourage vaccines and boosters for all eligible visitors as the best way to protect themselves and others, particularly our frail residents.  That said, DPH and CMS recognize the importance of visiting and now permit non-vaccinated family or friends to visit.  If someone is unable to visit in-room, we encourage you to schedule a family virtual visit call. Virtual visits (Facetime, Zoom, etc.) are scheduled by calling the Activities Department at 781-997-1123. Leave a message requesting a virtual visit and someone will call you back to schedule a mutually convenient virtual visit time.

Virtual visits will continue to be available to our residents and families. We encourage all friends and family members to get vaccinated as soon as possible, and boosted as soon as eligible!
